Meanwhile, Dr. Nikola is planning a vile crime in London with three evil associates. Guy Newell Boothby, (1867–1905) was an Australian playwright and novelist with varied interests. Belonging to an educated and well-connected family, he served as secretary to the mayor of Adelaide. He wrote his first comic opera, Sylvia, in 1890. An account of his and his brother's travels, On the Wallaby, or Through the East and Across Australia appeared in 1894. After moving to London in 1884, Boothby’s literary career truly began.
