Popis knihy:

Pakistan was carved out of India in 1947 after tremendous sacrifices of life, honor and money, as Muslims wanted to get rid of the domination of Hindu majority.  Muslims of pre-Partition India wanted to practice their own culture, ideology, system of life and religion in their own country without any prohibitions or restrictions. They were free to practice their religion in their private lives.  The British Raj or the subsequent Hindu Raj would not have allowed them to lead a life according to Islamic Shariah in their collective life in political, social, economic and financial spheres. Muslims were not interested simply in political independence.  They wanted an independece that would allow them to make their state Islamic as well.  These ideas gave life to Pakistan movement since 1940 to1947. Soon after its achievement, an Objectives Resolution was passed by the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan in 1948, defining the objectives of Pakistan as a State and declaring that it will become and develop into an Islamic state and not a secular one like Turkey or India. Therefore, Islamic Constitution was passed in 1956 and the Objectives Resolution was made a part of the Constitution.  A part of Shariah was implemented in the form of Hudood Laws in 1979, enacted by the late General Zia-ul-Haq.  But under American pressure against Islamic Laws, as shown by the report of the State Department in the book, a US stalwart, Gen. Musharraf repealed all of them in 2008.  The book further shows that misutilizing his executive power and misusing Pakistan military against its own civilians, to realize his secular dream, Musharraf preferred to murder innocent students of the Lal Mosque against the wishes and against the recommendations of his own Government-appointed Committee.  The Committee had successfully negotiated a settlement with the Lal Mosque managment.  But Gen. Musharraf refused to accept any compromise or settlement. He wanted to teach a lesson to those who call for an Islamic state in Pakistan.  He wanted to establish a precedent that all those who want to raise the call for an Islamic state will meet the same fate as those who raised such a slogan in Lal Masjid. The book also elaborates that the Hudood Shariah laws were in force for 29 years since 1979 without any protest or outcry against them by the people of Pakistan. Only the corrupt Pakistan Police was misusing them as it has been doing with all other laws in Pakistan. There is no one to check all such criminal acts of the Police. Musharraf wanted to transform our country into a secular state like Ataturk's Turkey.  Secularim was imposed by a military dictator, Mustafa Kamal Ataturk, in 1923.  He abolished 600-year old Muslim Caliphate under Ottoman empire in 1924. But this 80-year old experiment of Secularism has failed in Turkey.  An Islamist Party has won thumping majority and is ruling it successfully, even to the satisfaction of anti-Muslim President Bush or of some anti-Turkey European governments, for the last 5 years or more and getting greater majority in each succesive election. The President is also an Islamist, against whose appointment Secularists demonstrated and used the power of Judiciary unsuccessfully. Gen. Musharraf tried to impose this failed 80-year-old Turkish experiment of Secularim in Pakistan. God disgraced him. He was forced to resign in disgrace to save himself from the impending impeachment.  The book shows how he tried to reverse the Islamization of Pakistan.
